Steve Nicklen is an experienced 121 and team coach and organisational development consultant.   He helps his clients, individually and in teams, to improve their performance through personal development and the development of their relationships with others.

Specialising in leadership coaching and development, Steve enables his clients to look at the organisational and broader systemic contexts within which they work, as well at their own personal strengths, in parallel.  His aim is always to challenge and support his clients to find their own solutions, but he is also able to draw on his extensive personal experience in management and consultancy to suggest possible ways forward, where appropriate.

Background

After a career as a scientist (at the MRC Laboratory for Molecular Biology, at Cambridge) and later as a fast stream civil servant in the DTI, where he served as a Private Secretary to a number of Ministers, Steve spent over 15 years as a change management consultant, with Hay, Kinsley Lord and Ernst & Young (where he headed the change management consultancy during the late 90s).  During the mid-90s, he spent three years on the Management Board of the Audit Commission where he was accountable for the first national publications of the Citizens Charter PIs for local authorities.

Recent Experience

Over the last three years, in his own business, DNA LLP, Steve has worked with clients in a wide variety of organisations. Public sector clients include: CLG, DH, SEEDA, IDeA, the Academy for Sustainable Communities and many local authorities and NHS bodies. Private sector clients include: Microsoft, QinetiQ, GSK, Diageo, Pilkington and British Airways.  Steve is a Leadership Advisor with the Leadership Centre for Local Government. He has been a Personal Development Advisor with the NHS Leadership Centre and an Accredited Coach with the IDeA.

Affiliations and Training

Steve trained as a person-centred counsellor at the Metanoia Institute and is currently training as a coaching supervisor with Bath Consultancy Group.  He is an Accredited Member of APECS (Association of Professional Executive Coaches and Supervisors) and a member of the EMCC (European Mentoring and Coaching Council), where he is an elected member of its UK Board and chair of its UK and European Ethics Committees.
