Mary Ann is principal consultant for Mary Ann Rainey and Associates. Her practice specializes in executive coaching, strategic planning, leadership development and creating effective work groups. Adult learning is the theoretical underpinning of her work.
She was Vice President of Organizational Effectiveness for Exelon Corporation from 1995-2001. She led a team of 30 internal consultants that was responsible for organization development, change management, diversity management, continuous improvement and ethics implementation. She designed all change management efforts for a rarely successful merger of equals that created Exelon in 2000. A success indicator of this work was sustaining employee productivity and performance and minimizing attrition during the 12-month merger transition period. As a result of the merger experience, Mary Ann co-authored an executive briefing, “Lessons for Leadership from a Merger of Equals.” Another accomplishment involved an intervention that diffused employee disruption, which was critical to the turn around of a key business unit. Mary Ann also designed and implemented a diversity management system that increased females and minorities in senior management without internal or external legal challenge.
Before joining Exelon, Mary Ann was an external Organization Development consultant for nine years in Cleveland, Ohio. Her clients included American Express Bank, Cincinnati Gas & Electric, NASA, Price Waterhouse Coopers and Royal Bank, Royal Trust and Deloitte-Touche of Canada.
Mary Ann holds a Ph.D. in Organizational Behavior, an M.S. in Counseling and Human Resources and a B.S. in Business Management. She has taught at the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland and in the masters and doctoral programs at Benedictine University in Chicago. She is a member of the Gestalt Institute of Cleveland where she teaches in the International (co-chair) and U.S. Organization and Systems Development (OSD) training programs. She is also affiliated with the NTL Institute of Applied Behavioral Science and the Academy of Management Association.
